Simple 3D Cube Drawing Tutorial
Draw a convincing 3D cube with easy parallel lines, clean edges, and beginner-friendly shading.
Materials needed
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Paper
- Ruler
- Gray pencil
Step 1
Draw the front square
Start with a simple square. This is the face of the cube closest to the viewer.
Step 2
Offset a second square
Draw a second matching square up and to the right. Keep it the same size, but do not press too hard.
Step 3
Connect the corners
Join each matching corner with a straight line. The cube structure appears as soon as the corners connect.
Step 4
Clean the visible edges
Erase hidden overlaps and strengthen the outline of the three visible faces.
Step 5
Add simple shading
Leave the top face light, shade the side medium, and make the underside or far side darker.
Beginner tips
- Keep matching edges parallel for a neat cube.
- Choose one light direction before shading.
- Use three shade values: light, middle, and dark.
